How is rekeying different from replacing my locks?+
Rekeying changes the pin tumblers inside the existing lock cylinder so old keys no longer work, while the lock body, hardware, and door remain untouched. Replacing a lock means installing an entirely new unit. Rekeying is generally the faster, less invasive option — especially important in GF New York buildings with vintage mortise lock hardware where the door itself may be difficult to modify.
